Lawyers Acquitted In Insider Dealing Case

They didn’t really risk everything for a mere £40k each after all…

That was the amount they were accused of netting in the transaction but the charges failed to stick.

Former Dorsey & Whitney partner Andrew Rimmington and former McDermott Will & Emery partner escaped conviction after the FSA brought insider dealing charges against them last year. The charges related to the takeover of Neutec Pharma PLC in June 2006 by Swiss drugsmaker Novartis AG. Neutec’s Finance director Andrew King was also acquitted of the same charges.

Judge Testar discharged the jury from considering the case against Andrew Rimmington midway through proceedings for personal reasons. The FSA offered no evidence against Rimmington and not guilty verdicts were entered on his behalf.

Interestingly, Rimmington was sacked by Dorsey after the allegations first emerged so it’d be revealing to see how they spin forfeiture of the old innocent ’till proven guilty principle out of this. Being a bunch of lawyers and everything.
