Death Row Execution Goes Ahead Despite ‘Allergy’ to Anasthetic

The bizarre defence failed to prevent execution…

Convicted rapist, murderer and Death Row inmate Darryl Durr attempted a unique legal manoeuver last week, arguing that no one knew how his body would react if state officials were allowed to inject him with the lethal drug they use.

Lawyers for Darryl Durr uncovered evidence of Durr’s allergy to the anasthetic in his 800-page prison medical record. However, the defence failed and he was executed on Tuesday.

ABC: A death row inmate who tried to delay his execution by claiming he was allergic to the anesthesia used in the lethal injection was put to death today, right on schedule.

Ryan Miday, a spokesman for the Prosecutor, told ABC News:

“It’s a desperate twist on the ‘cruel and unusual punishment’ argument inmates have concocted to contest lethal injection,”

“Too allergic to die won’t work any better than Richard Cooey’s ‘too fat to die.’”

Cooey was another convicted killer who put forward the unsuccessful argument in 2008 that his obesity caused poor vein access.

All rather horrifying. And to think that a significant proportion of British people want to see capital punishment restored.
