Twitter for Lawyers?
Law firms – early adopters of technology…?
Early adopters of anything? Maybe not, but a few are waking up to the opportunities in social media. Whether it’s for recruitment, PR or business development, a number of firms have engaged with Facebook, Blogging, Twitter etc.
Twitter is the latest to get mainstream attention, particularly as it just announced it wants to make some money (normally a good way to get lawyers to take you seriously) but on the face of it it’s the most lightweight. After all, you only get 140 characters to promote your message and if there’s one thing you don’t learn in law school, it’s how to keep drafting to a minimum.
But Twitter needn’t just be fluff about the lives of Stephen Fry and Sarah Brown. According to the Twitter Marketing Hub: “Twitter helps you develop and promote your brand, interact with your customers and prospects, track what people are saying about your company and develop direct relationships with bloggers, journalists and industry leaders.”
Rainmaking from the comfort of your laptop. Not convinced, here’s the first of a series of 1 minute tutorials on Twitter created by lawyer and author of Social Media for Lawyers: Twitter Edition, Adrian Dayton:

I cannot see how law firms can use Twitter in a serious way. Maybe it has some use for the high street/sole practitioner but corporate tweeting by law firms? Watching paint dry sounds more interesting.

Cameron was right. Twitter is for twats. Why do addicts think anyone will be interested in what they are doing 24/7. It’s like Facebook update addicts – really, go visit a therapist about that narcissistic issue.

I think I agree with the first poster. Doing something that should be spontaneous by following the strict guidelines firms would need to impose would detract from whatever interest they attempted to create.
