Judge Calls Defendant “a colossal asshole”

Can they really use that kind of language…?

Charles Tyrwhitt UK

Perhaps not over here in our fusty old courtrooms but in the land of wilderness, maple leaves and the odd French-speaking city, it’s ok apparently.

Canadian junior hockey player, Chris Doyle, was found not guilty of assault on Friday. Doyle had shown up drunk at his ex-girlfriend’s apartment (Drinking Error 1) where he admitted punching a door (DE2), which then hit a woman in the face and broke her nose (serious DE3). Although he received a not guilty verdict, Judge John Douglas did give him this straight talking tongue-lashing instead.

“If he was charged with being a colossal asshole, I would find him guilty,” said Douglas, chief judge of the provincial court.

“Of assault causing bodily harm, I find him not guilty.” CBC

Neatly summarised.
