Snoop Dogg Gives Home Office a Legal Rapping
Snoop Dogg, or Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr to his folks, was banned from entering Britain after being arrested for violent disorder at Heathrow Airport in May 2006…
Besides which, he has a string of criminal convictions and has even been tried for murder.
However, the hip hopper has successfully claimed the UK ban infringed his human right to freedom of expression and could now get to visit any time soon. We don’t know if Mr Dogg has picked up a British newspaper recently but leaving California to visit our bankrupt and rainy isle doesn’t add up.
And neither does the cost of the Government’s unsuccessful legal battle with the rapper – it cost the UK taxpayer in excess of £100,000 according to the Daily Mail. Snoop Dogg’s lawyer, Bates Wells & Braithwaite partner and head of immigration, Philip Trott criticised the expense as ‘an appalling waste of public money’.
According to the Lawyer, Philip Trott is in fact the “hip hop lawyer” having also acted for 50 Cent and P Diddy in the past. Their focus piece on Trott entitled, Taking the rap actually provides an interesting insight into the politicisation of these types of decisions. Just take a deep breath for paragraphs like this one:
Trott may have problems dealing with immigration officials and the Government, but at least he has a network of clients referring him a constant stream of work at a time when most partners are busy trying to find work.
Trott has 99 problems, but a pitch ain’t one.

You should have added this bit from Trott’s interview:
Trott notes that ministerial intrusion into immigration cases has increased in recent years.
“It’s become more frequent with this particular Labour government,” he says. “They’re very concerned about appealing to Middle England, which is the Daily Mail and The Daily Telegraph.”
He adds: “In one sense we’ve become more fascistic in terms of immigration control.”
Nail, head and hitting spring to mind.

Oh wonderful, to be blessed with visitation by some over-hyped American celebrity ‘gangsta’. I would like to see what the Yanks would do if we sent someone of similar virtue to their shores. He would probably end up in Camp Delta.
