Court Proceedings Follow Multi-million Pound Gifts From L'Oreal Heiress

L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, 87, has been giving rather generously in her old age. She has apparently doled out £90m to L’Oreal’s chairman and former chief exec, Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones and another £910m to a French society photographer, Francois-Marie Banier, 62. The former increased revenues at L’Oreal to £15bn a year under his tenure, a fine performance; the latter must be damned good with a camera.

L’Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt, 87, has been giving rather generously in her old age. She has apparently doled out £90m to L’Oreal’s chairman and former chief exec, Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones and another £910m to a French society photographer, Francois-Marie Banier, 62. The former increased revenues at L’Oreal to £15bn a year under his tenure, a fine performance; the latter must be damned good with a camera.

Her daughter, Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, 56, accuses her of frittering away the family fortune and has asked a Paris court to place her under supervision to stop her being ‘manipulated’ into handing out money reports the Mail. Although, it is claimed that the money given to Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones was to thank him for overseeing the growth of the company, the gift to the photographer is more controversial.

Ms Bettencourt Meyers has pressed criminal charges against Mr Banier.

Christmas has come early for some lucky French lawyers.
