The Central London Employment Tribunal has been getting a dose of sex, bitterness and racism this week. And the gloves are off.
Indian-born Dr Aisha Bijlani, who recently brought a £33million claim for race discrimination alleged that top London chambers Four New Square discriminated against her for 16 years. More details of the case have emerged over the last few days as the Central London Employment Tribunal hears the case. Dr Bijlani alleges that clerks at the firm were racist, failed to give her work and did not collect her fees, costing her millions in lost income.
She alleges that a “racist culture” was overlooked at the chambers because of affairs taking place between Roger Stewart, QC, one of three heads of chambers at 4 New Square and senior clerk at the chambers, Lizzy Wiseman. Ms Wiseman is understood to have had an affair with another of the barristers, Justin Fenwick, QC, who is also being sued. The barristers have defended the claims and, in the latest revelations from the Mail , Mr Stewart has claimed Dr Aisha Bijlani was guilty of some pretty offensive stuff herself, he apparently said:
‘I am now aware of emails which your client has sent which contain deeply offensive and racist sentiment.
‘Your client described someone as a German Nazi whore spreading AIDS across Europe.’
Nasty stuff. The hearing continues.
