An Orange County attorney has agreed to plead guilty to losing more than $2 million in the stock market that was supposed to go to a group of employees he represented in a class action lawsuit.

The U.S. attorney’s office says 39-year-old Sandeep Baweja agreed to plead guilty Thursday to wire fraud and obstruction of justice. He faces up to 30 years in prison.

Federal prosecutors say Baweja reached a settlement with ZipRealty, Inc. in a lawsuit filed on behalf of about 800 ZipRealty agents in 2007. He was supposed to hold the settlement money in trust but transferred it to his own online brokerage account to use for day trading.

Prosecutors say Baweja lost all but about $55,000 of the $2.5 million.
