As husband Tony limbers up for a potential presidential position, famed QC (and former PM’s wife obviously), Cherie Blair, visited Edinburgh last week to help launch an initiative of a group of law students at Edinburgh University reports the Journal Online .
Under their tutor Aidan O’Neill QC, the students have created the Scottish Human Rights Law Group as an "independent, professional network for those engaged in legal practice and study, in academia and politics, in campaigning and in the provision of advice. It exists to raise awareness and knowledge of human rights law in Scotland, and to provide a forum for discussion of matters of interest across the field."
Bringing her substantial legal standing to the proceedings, Cherie Booth QC said of human rights at the launch that, they were not "some fuzzy liberal concept" but came from "a serious and deep appreciation of the rights of each individual".
