This is a slightly unusual tactic for law firms to employ; its more common in sales-oriented businesses where commissions can make up the bulk of salaries. But it’s not that surprising either and could be set to grow in popularity amongst smaller firms. Taking on expensive lawyers with no guarantee of their worth to the firm doesn’t make sense, particularly at the moment when any drag is unwelcome. So a tempting option perhaps, for lawyers set adrift with their own followings or individuals fed up with carrying deadwood through the downturn.
