Just as things seemed to be quietening down on the redundancy front, Burges Salmon has announced its second redundancy consultation. Just as things seemed to be quietening down on the redundancy front, Burges Salmon has announced its second redundancy consultation. A further 27 business services staff and 4 property lawyers are to be made redundant as part of the second phase of the firm’s internal restructuring. The first round of redundancies saw 18 lawyers exit in March.
In addition, Burges Salmon has opted to freeze both support staff and fee earner salaries at 2008 levels, with the newly-qualified rate dropping from £43,000 to £40,000.
The new consultation starts next week.

I think there will be more come September/October. Firms that have not seen any improvement in the pipeline will have an eye towards next years results and will trim costs accordingly.
