Fire-breathing Apprentice star Lord Sugar has threatened to sue Quentin Letts, the Daily Mail columnist, for making potentially defamatory comments about his political intellect, just prior to his Lords appointment. The columnist has commented on the spat and released details of a letter received from Herbies (long time advisors to Sugar) on the Daily Mail website:
Smith & Co add that I ‘appear to believe that someone is only suitable of being appointed to the House of Lords if they attended public school’.
And hinting at a bit of court acton:
They say: ‘We rather doubt that a jury of our client’s peers would agree with you.’
Herbies won a previous libel claim for Lord Sugar in relation to an article which appeared in the Daily Mail in December 1999 accusing him of being a "miser" and "parsimonious" and interfering with the running of the team at Tottenham Hotspur.

I’m a big fan of the apprentice but why did AMS bother to get entangled with this dying mess of a government or in politics at all.

I’m not a fan of the Apprentice with Lord Sugar’s 1980’s faux macho boss man nonsense. He must have lerned that not everyone can take it as seriously as he does and ought to be prepared for even more piss taking now he has got into politics.

Would HS really put stuff like that in a letter before action?

That ought to put the jitters up Letts. Facing being sued personally by a man like Sugar who has the resources to let Herbies try and nail him to the wall, no thanks.

Might have known it was someone from The Daily Mail – for a paper well known for railing against the enemies of “Law and Order” they are themselves remarkably frequently the target of (successful) libel actions. They are however in no way raving hypocrites. Good luck Surrallan !

Like watching the FA cup when your team’s not in it. Could be interesting but don’t care who wins.

Letts has been too offensive over the years.
