SRA Criticised – 25% of Cases Referred to Ombudsman Handled Unsatisfactorily

The SRA is under fire again . The Legal Service Ombudsman, Zahida Manzoor, said that ‘I have noted an increase in the number of cases that I have asked the SRA to reconsider.’ Manzoor was not satisfied with the way the SRA had handled the complaints process in 25 per cent of the cases referred by consumers to the Ombudsman. This was five per cent more than 2007-08.

In April the SRA was criticised by the Law Society in Lord Hunt’s independent review suggesting that it ‘lacks the sufficient skills, understanding and flexibility to effectively regulate all parts of the profession’.
