The scarcity of jobs in the legal sector is not really a revelation; just how difficult it has got to stay afloat in some places might be though. Before unemployed lawyers think of pimping themselves out as a temporary liquidity measure, consider this cautionary tale…

Lawyer and MBA graduate, Nina C. Baccala met William V. Lapierre after advertising escort services in the Providence Phoenix. When Lapierre allegedly tried to rob Baccala with a large kitchen knife, she reportedly fended him off with a chemical spray and managed to escape and call the police. Although Ms Baccala tried to avoid her name being publicised in the case, as you can see it did indeed come out. This in turn led to further details emerging; principally that she graduated cum laude from New England School of Law, in Boston, and was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in December. Also, she is awaiting the results of the bar exam she took in Rhode Island in February and that she is a Bryant University graduate with an MBA degree. With these details splashed across industry media she has apparently now decided to recant the assault allegation to exert a bit of damage control. However, the police have decided to proceed with the case anyway.

So a highly-qualified lawyer resorts to moonlighting as an escort to make ends meet, the net result of which could be that her illegal moneyspinner may have put paid to a promising legal career. One just can’t help but feel sympathetic.
