Ali Bongo, whose real name was William Wallace, was one of Britain’s most popular stage magicians. He acted as adviser to other magicians and was often consulted for television shows about magic, including the Paul Daniels Magic Show on the BBC.

He was also the inspiration for the character of Jonathan Creek in the BBC television detective series of the same name starring Alan Davies.
