Solicitr understands from its (very) relaible sources that pubs across London and elsewhere were packed to the rafters as would-be commuters celebrated the extended weekend with a pint or two.
Many law firms experienced difficulties, with a large number of lawyers and support staff unable to travel into work. Although the day off was appreciated by a lot of the ‘unfortunate’ legal workforce some didn’t get off quite so lightly…
According to Legal Week Clifford Chance mobilised its emergency taskforce – a group that comprises the firm’s regional chief operating officer Chris Turner, the head of IT and the head of facilities – to co-ordinate home working, ensure all staff members are well informed of travel news, and arrange hotel accommodation for any staff who are unable to travel home from the office (lucky them).
Many other firms also have systems that allow employees to access their computers remotely, ensuring that work levels can be maintained when office access is restricted, although we are not sure quite how determinedly they were put to use yesterday!
