It may be that you won’t get a lot of choice in the matter at the moment with firms swinging the axe all over the place and the recruitment market saturated with out of work lawyers. Each time we get news of redundancies, which is pretty regularly at the moment let’s face it, there is a nagging feeling that people need a bit of positive news. Whilst that is not always possible given the bigger picture, there is normally a bit of humour to be extracted from the ether of the internet or a bit of useful guidance to help those facing the uncertainty of being made redundant. So here we have some just in case.

The first step on the path of redundancy will probably be a trip to your bosses’ office about an undisclosed matter. The next step will then be the one many associates are dreading at the moment. After the blow has been delivered most people need a bit of time to gather themselves and work out what to do next. At this point it is obviously sensible to consider getting some advice…

As a quick bit of prep, here is a rather useful guide which states that it has been written by a lawyer for non-lawyers, or translated by us – for those rusty on their employment law. Just so you don’t feel completely ignorant when discussing with your chosen advisor.

For some, you might then want to get your CV out to recruitment agencies right away and look for some new employment in a bid to continue your career uninterrupted. For others it may be an opportunity to contemplate a break or even a new career altogether. If comments from our readers and the general negativity in the recruitment market are anything to go by, the former may decide that they have become the latter after a few weeks off looking so…

If you are struggling for a bit of inspiration for a career break try the appropriately named thecareerbreaksite to get some ideas. And if you need some positivity whilst looking for a new career consider one of our previous posts on the matter or these folk .
