And talking of large sums and court proceedings, in an unusual move, a High Court judge has ordered Allen & Overy and McDermott Will & Emery to estimate their costs before an intellectual property trial between RIM (maker of your Blackberry) and Visto a US technology company. Justice Arnold’s decision to force the firms to disclose their expected bills came after A&O racked up fees totalling £5.18m in a previous related case between the two parties. This compared to Taylor Wessing’s £1m bill for Visto. Some disparity you think…
RIM won the earlier case but Mr Justice Floyd refused to grant the company its full costs, denouncing A&O’s £5.18m figure as ‘unnecesary’ for the five-day trial, overseen by intellectual property partner Nicola Dagg.
