Guy Ritchie seems to have ended up with a fairly hefty payout from Madonna following their divorce. The sum is thought to be in the region of £50m even though the split was "never about money". As the pop star’s US spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg so deftly put it, "I’d assume it’s one of the largest payouts ever in a divorce." Probably.

And talking of large sums and court proceedings, in an unusual move, a High Court judge has ordered Allen & Overy and McDermott Will & Emery to estimate their costs before an intellectual property trial between RIM (maker of your Blackberry) and Visto a US technology company. Justice Arnold’s decision to force the firms to disclose their expected bills came after A&O racked up fees totalling £5.18m in a previous related case between the two parties.
