It’s going to be a cold winter for Evershed’s associates with the enforcement of the firm’s new performance-related salary structure. On the back of a miserable summer, faltering economy and rising energy bills, this new structure is sure to have those associates stocking up on their Winter wares.

HR director Lucy Adams said “Performance related pay increases are common place amongst our clients and this builds on our move last year away from the traditional partner remuneration system of lockstep and our introduction of a performance related reward system for our partners,” And revealingly…

“These changes are not only about creating a culture where top performers are recognised for their achievements, but it is also an act of prudence in the current economic climate."

Great performance may well feel like an up-hill struggle in the current climate; looks like a shrewd move by the firm’s management.

The change reflects similar freezes at Allen & Overy and Norton Rose earlier in the year.
