Rudolf Giuliani's son sues Duke university and the University golf coach for throwing him off the Golf Team!

Giuliani appears to be alleging that his golf scholarship at Duke is a contract, in which the University has to provide four years’ tuition, room and board, not terminable at the will of Duke. As a consequence, Andrew will probably have to forego the lucrative PGA career that may have awaited him, and maybe go to law school instead. This is the full version of the complaint.

Andrew Giuliani is suing based on promises allegedly made by his former (deceased) coach Rod Myers during recruitment. However, it is questionable whether such a promises are binding on future coaches, or the University, particularly as they were not made in writing? Also questionable is whether or not a scholarship offer may be revocable for bad behavior and subpar (12th out of 14 on the team according to ESPN) play?

Allegedly, Duke Univesity is notorious for pursuing children of the rich and famous in a bid to increase the University’s standing and endowment (it is supposedly pretty forthright about this even compared to other top American univesities).

This practice prevails even to the extent of lowering academic entrance standards in certain circumstances, admitting children of the rich and famous in preference to others who are better qualified but poorer or not famous. Attributes such as “leadership” as used in justification.

Now there is no doubt that Rudolf Giuliani is a great leader but since when did leadership pass from father to son? It also begs the quetion as to whether Andrew Giuliani was given a golf scholarship because he’s a great leader rather than a great golfer? Poor chap.
